TunaCode Wins COMPPEC 2010

135 teams poured into EME College NUST for this year’s COMPPEC which is a one of its kind Computer/Engineering Exhibition and Competition. This year’s COMPPEC was different from the previous ones in the way that Research category was introduced for the first time.

The news is that TunaCode won 3rd position in Signal/Image Processing category. We presented our work on GPU computing to the audience and judges at the competition and amazed them with the possibilities and the immense potential of GPU Computing for scientific as well as commercial software communities.

Our presentation was titled “Accelerating Compute Intensive Image Processing Algorithms on GPUs” and we demonstrated the accelerations achieved in the key image processing algorithms like Hough transform, forward and inverse 2D discrete cosine transform, RGB to Grayscale color conversion etc.

Thanks to Dr. Tauseef Ur Rehman from NUST for his valuable guidance in the project and assistance in developing collaborative relationship with AccelerEyes, USA.
